What is a Futon?
|
|
The
ancient Japanese matresse was unknown in Europe.
Soft rolled up throws were used to sleep on, the futon.
Originally
they were single filled blankets with cotton wool.
Stacked on top of each other they were used to sleep
on and
singely as covers. Due to their construction and filling these futons were
very hard to keep.
The airing and rolling of these simple futons was a daily ritual.
Combining the futon with the traditional
European
matresse we established the modern futon.
The advantage through
the
combination of different layers of materials provide an optimal sleeping
surface for everyone |
The Materials
|
|
Cotton |
|
The
plant structure used is extracted from the seed shells of the cotton wool
bush. Cotton wool is the
classic
filler of futons. It is skin friendly, breathable and cleaning itself.
|
|
Sheeps wool |
|
The
wool used by us is 100% pure. It is only washed and not chemically
treated.
Sheeps wool has
a high
moisture obsorption capacity and is cleaning itself.
|
| Coconut |
|
The
threads of the coconut shell are used to give a solid, flexible foundation
seperating soft padding
layers
and enable thus a natural breathable surface.
|
| Latex
Coconut |
|
Gluing
the threads of the coconut shell with the milk of the Kautschuk tree you
create a breathable
elastic matresse.
In comparison to pressed or stitched coconut the latexed coconut is more
durable.
These layers are most suitable for futons used in bunk beds or
closed constructions.
|
| Horse Hair |
|
Is one
of the oldest and valuable materials.
Its elasticity and flexibility is permanent and horse hair
can absorb a lot of
moisture.
Absorbed during the night and totally released during the day.
|
| Latex |
|
Natural
latex is the white milky juice of the Kautschuk tree.
The juice is extracted by cutting
the
rind of the tree. This juice is frothed with air and solidifies through
heating.
The foam blocks
created are porous and in comparison to animal hair its thread free.
It is most suitable for people with allergies. From the orthopaedic point
of view, latex is the
most
valuable filling material.
Latex matresses support the natural body form through its
high
elasticity in every position.
|
| Die Pflege |
|
Your
futon should be aired and turned regularly. All the used materials are
anti static, meaning
they
are dust repellent.
Covers are made from pure cotton. Stains can be removed with water
and
in some cases harmless cleaners.
The daily rolling up of the futon is no longer necessar
